Half (49%) of Sweden’s consumers want to pay via self-service, according to the report Payments in the Nordics from Svea Bank. It’s a clear trend that picked up speed during the pandemic years. The question is when it will reach hair salons in full force. At Digmi, we want to move salon payments – from the till to the chair and the product shelf.
Anyone who regularly buys products in a salon outside their appointments knows it often means waiting. The hairdressers are busy with a client in the chair and can rarely step away straight away to take payment. Hairdressers are creatives who need focus to perform at their best. In larger salons, the answer is often dedicated staff who only handle bookings and customers at the product shelf. That isn’t possible for every salon. We believe self-checkout could be the answer.
Letting customers scan the product and pay for themselves has three positive effects
A better experience for the customer at the product shelf, not least through shorter waiting times.
A better experience for the client in the chair, as the hairdresser can carry on without interruption.
The hairdresser can work in peace, focus on the job and avoid serving several customers at once.
So anyone who thinks the customer experience suffers is mistaken. Magdalena Caesar, Head of Payments at Svea Bank, describes the effect in the report:
– In fact, our data suggests that businesses that have introduced scan and pay have seen an increase in overall customer satisfaction. Staff are freed up and can instead offer personal service throughout the whole shopping journey.
